Dead Serious #005 “The Host is in the Hotseat” Part 1

Dead Serious #005 (MP3 – 10.3MB – 29min)
LISTEN HERE

Episode 5 of Dead Serious contains an edited version of an interview I did on national radio in Australia with Mr Peter Thomas. Part 2 of this interview will be incorporated in next weeks show. Peter is an interesting man, a broadcaster, documentary and film maker, who has interviewed such people as the Dalai Lama, so I feel honored that he had me on his program not once, but twice. Peter generously agreed to me using the interview I did with him on my personal experiences of working with dying people and this weeks show is built around that interview.
The main focus of this weeks program is how people find purpose and meaning when they are facing death. Do we ever think about what makes our lives meaningful? If we do think about this, what are the things that are meaningful for us?
Do we ever think about the purpose of our existence? What is our purpose (on both a personal and societal level)?
It has been obvious to me that these are the questions dying people reflect on and when they’ve not thought about them before, it can make their lives seem worthless. Sometimes it takes a ‘brush with death’ for us to proactively think about what we contribute to the world, our family and friends , on a day to day basis………and often it is the little things that have the biggest impact on other people.

So, sit back, have a listen to the host (me) ‘getting grilled by a professional’ and reflect on how YOU find purpose and meaning in your life and would this be different if you knew that you were going to die tomorrow?
The music in this weeks episode is from unsigned artists MOWGLEE and the song “Waiting for the Day” can be accessed via the unsigned music website (link attached)…..so get on there, have a look and a listen and send some positive vibes to Paul Nicholls for providing this great music to us via his site.

As always, I welcome your feedback on the site. Remember…….comments and feedback are what make me get dressed in the morning, so if you don’t put up any comments on the blogg……………well, you can imagine how uncomfortable that is for anyone who comes to visit me during the day!!!

I have to admit it I hesitated listening to your podcast at first because I’ve experienced more than my fair share of deaths the past couple of years, starting with 9/11. Actually it started before that. I blogged about this on my personal site, how I thought my fiance (at the time) died in Desert Storm. I recently found out that he didn’t die and it wasn’t until I heard his voice for the first times in years that I REALLY understood how much his *death* affected me, and how the other deaths after him impacted my life. Finding him started a healing process for me because I never really got over it.

    Which isn’t good. :)

I often think about “my purpose” in life. I know it involves helping people because no matter what I do, I always seem to come back to that…some way or another. :)
