Who is “Captain Grumpy”? You may well ask………….well he’s a pirate who didn’t want to be a pirate and his parents forced him into it……….sound familiar?????
Many of us end up in careers we wouldn’t normally have chosen but drift into them because it’s ‘expected’ of us, either by our parents, our teachers or other influential adults. Russel uses the “Captain Grumpy” moniker to teach kids in schools about anger management. This is only one of his talents.
My guest, Russell Deal is Managing Director of Innovative Resources, a publishing house that specialises in producing cards, books and other resources which explore often confronting issues, in order to encourage community discussion. Russ talks about why Innovative Resources has such a committment to dealing with ‘taboo’ subjects. He talks about books on child sexual abuse, death, loss and emotional upheaval and how these books and the card decks can be used by both health professionals and anyone wanting to introduce these concepts to people close to them.
Russ is a straight talker who has a passion for his work. He is creative and enthusiastic and a “must hear” for anyone aspiring to ‘follow their dreams’ by writing, illustrating or pursuing any creative or artistic career (including technology).
Music is once again provided by Siobhana bouncy little number called “Slippy’s in the Bar”. The interview was recorded on a wonderful new Aussie program called ‘Skylook” which made the process SO much easier!
